[Note: This is a post by our reporter at the scene - Theresa R., eighth grader at Longfellow Middle School in Hill City Kansas about Nick News videotaping a segment in their school. More here.]
Today when we got to school, we were all very excited about Nick News coming, but at the same time, we were very nervous. We were nervous because we didn’t want to mess up or anything. Everyone so far has been on their best behavior and everyone has helped out with everything that has been needed. We just need to be very patient and everything should run very smoothly. If you get really nervous and you mess up, don’t worry about it. Everyone makes mistakes when they’re in front of people, especially with cameras. No one is perfect.
When I first got to school this morning, Mr. Parker came up to me and he took me into the tech lab. He showed me on blog.genyes.com that my blogs were on there. I was so shocked. He was making a big deal out of it and Tayler was sitting there with me and she was just so amazed at it, too. Mrs. Money asked me if she could have my autograph this morning. She thought I was famous. She loved that I was blogging for our school.
We are still so thankful that Nick News is here with us. We never
thought we’d be this lucky to have something like this happen to us. Since we are eighth graders this year, this is something that we’re going to remember when we graduate. This is one memory that we’re never going to forget. I mean, how could anyone forget something like this. We’re going to take this everywhere with us. With Nick News being here, it’s just so amazing that we actually get an opportunity like this. It’s kind of like a dream. You can dream it, but it just doesn’t come true. Well, to us, this is a dream, but our dreams came true. Everything we know and everything that we’ve been through, we couldn’t have done it without help from Mr. Parker. We would have not come this far if it wasn’t for him.
I went and talked to Kara Pothier. She is the Segment Producer of Nick News, and she told me a lot of information. The premiere will likely be on June 24th. When I was in there talking with them, Lowell asked me if I would stand-in for a while. They needed to fix the lights for the next interviewer. The teachers had to put on make-up. Two of the teachers in the middle school, Mr. Hamel and Mr. Parker, had to put on make-up. Everyone needs a little make-up!
They set up in the tech lab. Everything in there is just so amazing! I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything like it, even on TV. I was just blown away seeing all the equipment in there. There’s so much that they have to work with. I don’t see how they do it all. Kara asked me if we’ve ever had anything like this here before and I said no. I learned a lot from Kara, Paul, and Lowell today. Just by the way they know how to work everything. I would’ve thought that they needed a lot of people just to shoot something like this, but there were just the three of them. They did just fine with just the three of them.
Kara thinks that Hill City is a very nice town. It may be small, but it’s very nice. I just want to thank Kara, Paul, and Lowell for everything they taught me today. I want to thank them for everything that they’ve done for us, but most of all, for our school. I can’t wait to see what they have planned for everyone tomorrow!
